Ronald Gonzales-Lawrence
Director, Governmental Relations
Ronald Gonzales-Lawrence is the Director of Governmental Relations at Pomona Unified School District. He has worked in government, education and politics for over 20 years.
Mr. Gonzales-Lawrence served as a legislative staffer in the California Legislature for over ten years. He began as an intern for State Senator Martha E. Escutia and went on to serve as one of the youngest Field Representatives in the state working for Assemblymember Rudy Bermudez. Ronald served as a Senior Field Representative and Deputy District Director for Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon. He went on to serve as the District Director and then Chief of Staff for Assemblymember Freddie Rodriguez representing Pomona and surrounding community.
Ronald has a long history as a public servant. In 2007, Mr. Gonzales-Lawrence was elected to the Little Lake City School District Board of Education. He was the youngest person ever elected to the board as well as the first person of African American decent. Ronald led the efforts to create the Little Lake Education Advancement Foundation to bring private dollars into classrooms. As well as efforts to develop more transparency, create a wellness program for staff and students, preserve a balanced budget, and created policies to advance the district efforts on educational technology. He also help develop a bond and parcel tax for the district. Ronald served as Clerk and Vice President of the Board and concluded his term in 2011. After his service on the Board of Education, He was appointed the first Chair of Measure LL Bond Oversight Committee.
Outside of elected office, Ronald also served on the California Advisory Commission for Special Education as an appointee of Assembly Speaker John Perez. He served on the Board of Directors for Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. a $20 Million nonprofit that provided Early Head Start, Head State and State Preschool Services at over 20 ECE Center throughout Southeast Los Angeles County. He currently serves on the Los Angeles County Water Appeals Board appointed by Los Angeles County Supervisor Hilda Solis.
Ronald has extensive policy and advocacy experience. He has helped develop and pass numinous legislative bills and acquire more than $30 million in state funding for projects.
Mr. Gonzales-Lawrence studied Political Science and Child Development at Rio Hondo College before transferred to Mount St. Mary’s College where he studied Liberal Arts and Religious Studies. He also studied Public Administration at the University of La Verne.
Ronald is a dog Dad to the Frenchie Bulldog, Kyva, and a foodie who is always looking for recommendation.
